Fable just dropped around 30 minutes of new gameplay footage, meant to get players hyped for the classic IP’s return. But instead of focusing on the gameplay, the discussion took a weird turn: the NPCs’ faces look way too calm! Many players pointed out that in the latest clips, character expressions during dialogue are fairly limited, with lip sync and emotion synchronization feeling a bit stiff. Some even described it as talking to someone in “emotion-off mode.”

Like a Plaster Statue
The debate exploded across social media, with one viral comment calling the NPCs “like plaster statues” that never change expression. Others joked that even the protagonists in early 2000s games had more expressive faces. The general consensus: the characters look like they’re holding back any real emotion, which feels strange for a game that’s supposed to be full of British humor and charm.

Xbox’s Response
So is this why GTA 6 delayed? Some are joking that Microsoft saw Rockstar’s trailer and decided to push Fable back to avoid the comparison. While that’s clearly tongue-in-cheek, the real question is whether Playground Games can polish these facial animations before launch—or if we’ll all be staring at stiff upper lips all the way to Albion.
