Pokémon’s Greatest Threat Returns! New Cassette Beasts Sequel Announced

While everyone waits for the next big Pokémon evolution, a game many players called “the best Pokémon-like game in years” is suddenly back with a sequel! Developer Bytten Studio at PC Gaming Show officially revealed Cassette Beasts 2002, the official sequel to 2023’s Cassette Beasts, bringing the unique fusion system that made the original special.

The Fusion System Players Love Is Back!

If there’s one thing that made Cassette Beasts most distinctive, it’s not catching monsters—it’s fusing them. In the original, players could fuse two monsters into entirely new forms, with almost all creatures combinable freely! The team even made over 10,000 fusion results, making every battle full of unknowns. This system became one of the biggest reasons the game stood out from the many Pokémon clones. And from the newly revealed trailer, the Fusion system not only returns but will be even more advanced in the sequel.

New Monsters, New City, Even the Camera Angle Upgraded!

Beyond the fusion gameplay, Cassette Beasts 2002 moves the stage to a new area called Nodnol. The team describes it as a city full of 2000s London style, where players become monster trainers investigating mysterious cults and supernatural events. The trailer also shows multiple new monsters for the first time, with one called “Griffiñata” mixing ribbon and piñata styles quickly drawing major community discussion. Players also noticed the exploration camera is no longer locked to top-down but adds a more immersive perspective, making it feel more 3D than the original.

Called “What Pokémon Should Be Like” Back in the Day

When Cassette Beasts launched, it received massive praise for its unique gameplay. Many players felt it was more willing to try new mechanics than recent Pokémon games. The game featured open-world exploration, elemental chain reactions, relationship systems, and over 10,000 fusion combinations—seen by many as one of the most successful monster-collection RPGs in years. Cassette Beasts 2002 hasn’t revealed a release date yet, but it’s confirmed for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. With the fusion system returning, many players are already worried about one thing: this time they might be staying up late researching thousands of fusion recipes again.
