The full world scale of Grand Theft Auto VI finally has a clearer explanation. According to YouTuber TGG who recently visited Rockstar North, Rockstar development lead Rob Nelson told him that the entire map of Grand Theft Auto VI is approximately 2 times Grand Theft Auto V and a massive 3 times larger than Red Dead Redemption 2.
Vice City Itself Is Already Twice Los Santos
It gets even more ridiculous. Rockstar revealed that Vice City, the core city of Grand Theft Auto VI, is already approximately 2 times larger than Los Santos from Grand Theft Auto V. If you include Vice City and the surrounding suburbs, the scale reaches 11 times that of Los Santos and its surrounding areas. In other words, players are not just returning to the familiar Vice City, but will be exploring a city and surrounding area far larger than anything before.

Looking at the recently released Grand Theft Auto VI Extended Look, this map is not just copying and pasting buildings outward. Vice City and the surrounding areas include beaches, suburbs, waterways, and various environments. Players can go diving, boating, skydiving, play basketball, and NPCs in the world engage in numerous different daily behaviors. Rockstar has emphasized in the past that they want the open world to not just be big, but to have enough content for players to discover while exploring. Grand Theft Auto VI clearly takes this philosophy to an even more absurd scale.
Players Real Enemy Might Not Be the Police, But Getting Lost!
Rockstar employees spent approximately 80 hours playing through, but that does not mean all content has been completed. Now that the full map size being 3 times Red Dead Redemption 2 has been revealed, players entering Vice City will likely face a very real question: Where am I exactly?
Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for November 19, 2026. Based on the scale revealed so far, Rockstar seems to be not just letting players play a game, but preparing to throw an entire virtual world at them.
