The Sims 4 has been out for over 12 years, and countless players have lost hours of progress due to game crashes or forgetting to save. After more than a decade of complaints, EA has finally decided to fix it. The studio announced that AutoSave will be officially added in the July 21st update, leading many players to quip: “So you finally know this feature is important?”
Players Asked for 12 Years, EA Finally Listened
According to EA’s announcement, AutoSave will automatically create save points in the background, and players can also customize when it triggers—such as when switching lots, after playing for a set time, or completing significant events. Additionally, for those who prefer manual saves, the update also adds a “Save Reminder” feature that periodically prompts players to save their game.

Beyond AutoSave, the update also expands Memory Boost to Mac and console versions, improving memory management, reducing lag, shortening load times, and minimizing crashes and save file corruption caused by memory issues.
Better Late Than Never!
After the announcement, many players welcomed the change, but even more responded with: “12 years and you finally thought of this?” Some joked that the real gameplay in The Sims 4 all these years was building the muscle memory to press Ctrl + S every few minutes. Others noted that if it weren’t for the increasing competition in the life simulation genre, EA might still be in no rush to add this basic feature.

For longtime players, AutoSave may not be revolutionary, but it could be The Sims 4’s most practical quality-of-life improvement in 12 years. After all, no amount of compelling storytelling survives an unexpected crash.
