If you think VR can only be used to play shooting, rhythm or horror games now, you may have underestimated the obsession of the simulator circle. VRified Games is developing a “PS1 VR Emulator” with the goal of making some PS1 games replayable in VR. The official currently shows the screen of “Metal Gear Solid” (Metal Gear / Metal Gear Solid) running in the simulator, and said that in the future it will support first-person and third-person perspective switching, stereoscopic 3D, and 6 DOF (six degrees of freedom) head tracking.
6DoF + stereoscopic 3D, conceptually it can really make old games different
Many so-called VRs actually just project flat images onto a large virtual screen, but what VRified Games is talking about is a more advanced one: you can use head tracking to “see” the scene in VR, and increase the sense of depth through stereoscopic 3D, and even switch between first and third person, turning the original stealth game on a 2D screen into an experience closer to “you are there”. For a work like “Metal Gear Solid” that relies on perspective and information to control eating, this change may be interesting – of course, it may also make you faint more easily.
In the early stages, the frame rate was out of sync, and the picture was so shaken that it felt like I had had three drinks.

The developer also admitted that the project is still in its early stages, and the head tracking in the video is currently quite “stuttery/shaky”. The reason is that the game itself is locked at 30fps, but head tracking runs at 90fps. If the two are out of sync, the camera movement will look awkward. Developers describe the concept as cool, but the technical reality is still slapping them in the face.
PC first, maybe Meta Quest in the future
Currently, this PS1 VR emulator is mainly developed for PC, but VRified Games also mentioned that there is an opportunity to launch a Meta Quest version in the future. If this set is really mature, the current PS1 VR emulator is mainly developed for PC, but VRified Games also mentioned that there is an opportunity to launch a Meta Quest version in the future. If this set is really mature, PS1 games like “Jumping Flash”, which already have a sense of 3D space and are quite weird, may be very interesting to play in VR.
