PlayStation launches “The Playerbase” plan: selected players will go to Los Angeles to have their faces scanned, and they can also enter “Gran Turismo 7” as a portrait!

Sony recently launched a new community project “The Playerbase”, which gives some PlayStation players the opportunity to be “scanned” into PlayStation Studios games. Everything from the appearance of the virtual characters to the in-game presentation is officially handled. The first stop is “Gran Turismo 7”!

You read that right, Sony doesn’t give you themes or PS Plus, but wants you to be the material.

Fill out the application first, then screen for interviews, and finally select only one person to enter GT7 as a limited-time portrait

According to Sony, participants need to log in to their PlayStation account and fill out the application information. Officials will then review the application, select a small number of finalists for a video interview, and finally select a “selected player” to join “Gran Turismo 7”. This player will appear in the game as a limited-time in-game character portrait, which will appear similar to other portraits that already exist in the game.

Sony also mentioned that this plan will be launched in some markets such as the Americas, Europe, Asia, South Africa and Australia. In other words, it is not a global synchronization, nor does everyone participate; whether you can participate depends on which region you are in.

Not just a face scan: I also want you to do Fantasy Logo and car body painting together

The more interesting (and more Sony-like) part is at the back. Selected participants will not only be scanned, but also participate in the production of customized Fantasy Logo and unique vehicle livery. Sony says these will be permanently added to the Showcases menu. In other words, you don’t end up just showing your face in the game, but your “Logo + car sticker” will be fixed in the display area and become some kind of officially certified player souvenir.

It’s more like a “pilgrimage mission” for die-hard fans.

Sony said that the final winner will be invited to the visual arts studio in Los Angeles for scanning and design collaboration. This is of course great for die-hard fans, because you are using the “official process” to tuck yourself into PlayStation history.

But then again, at least this time Sony chose “real-person scanning” instead of directly using AI to generate a character that looks like you but is not you. On some levels, this can be considered sincerity.
