The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is getting a remaster, and CD Projekt Red has confirmed that the Xbox version will support Microsoft’s Xbox Play Anywhere program. Simply put, players who own the game on Xbox Series X|S can play on PC without buying it again.
Xbox and PC — Directly Connected
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered is slated for release on September 29th, and Xbox Play Anywhere lets players move between supported Xbox consoles and Windows PC. For players who already own the game on Xbox, this isn’t just a graphics upgrade — it also adds the convenience of cross-platform play.

Remaster Isn’t Just a Skin Swap — There’s New Content Too!
Besides visual and gameplay updates, the remaster will also include a new expansion called Songs of the Past. The official release is confirmed for September 29th, and existing players can upgrade for free. However, the free cross-platform play benefit specifically relies on Xbox Play Anywhere support — not all platforms will be connected.

For players who own both Xbox and PC, Xbox Play Anywhere does save on duplicate purchase costs. However, it’s important to note that this convenience applies specifically to Xbox versions supporting the program — it doesn’t mean Steam, GOG, or other PC store versions will automatically unlock. Players looking to return to the game with the remaster should first check which version they own.
