DLSS 5 Hype! GTA 5 Players Force DLSS 5 In, Character Faces Just Melt Away

DLSS 5 GTA 5

Players recently forced NVIDIA’s latest DLSS 5 neural rendering technology into Grand Theft Auto V using community tools like RenoDX and ReShade, and the results weren’t more divine—instead, character faces began distorting, even producing near-“hallucination” horror effects. The video sparked heated discussion on Reddit, with users directly describing it as a psychedelic trip.

Press Pause, Character Face Starts Melting!

The strangest part appears when players open the pause menu. The game blurs the background, the screen almost freezes, but DLSS 5’s neural rendering keeps processing—the small changes in character faces get continuously reinterpreted, distortion worsening frame by frame, eventually becoming a completely unrecognizable face.

However, this can’t be directly blamed on Rockstar, because GTA V currently has no official DLSS 5 support. This test was completely player-injected via MOD tools, so issues don’t mean DLSS 5 officially integrated into the game will look the same. The real issue is that DLSS 5 differs from traditional image reconstruction—it uses neural models to supplement lighting, materials, and skin details, and relies much more heavily on temporal and motion information provided by the game engine.

AI Getting More Real, But Scaring People First?

NVIDIA positions DLSS 5 as next-generation neural rendering technology aimed at making game graphics more realistic, but this unofficial GTA 5 test demonstrates another possibility: AI really knows how to make graphics more real, but that doesn’t mean it always knows what it’s looking at. Currently, this case is more of a MOD integration issue rather than DLSS 5 itself officially failing.
