One less physical version? The director of “Final Fantasy VII Revelation” can’t guarantee that there will be a CD!

After Sony announced that it will gradually stop releasing physical disc games in the future, one of the questions that players are most concerned about is which other works can be purchased in physical versions. Now even “Final Fantasy VII Revelation” has changes. Game director Naoki Hamaguchi admitted in a recent interview that there is currently no guarantee that the game will be released in a physical version, and it ultimately depends on each platform and market strategy.

The physical version is still undecided

Naoki Hamaguchi said that “Final Fantasy VII Revelation” is expected to be released on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC in 2027, but he did not make any guarantees when it came to physical discs. He pointed out that the game market has been rapidly developing towards digitalization in recent years, and different platforms have their own distribution strategies. Therefore, it is not possible to confirm that all platforms will launch physical versions at this stage.

Players are once again worried that physical collections may become less and less!

After the news was exposed, many players were worried that the final chapter of the “Final Fantasy VII” remake trilogy might also join the ranks of “digital first.” Recently, the issue of PlayStation physical version has continued to spread. Many players believe that in addition to having collection value, the physical version also represents the real ownership of the game. However, some people believe that the digital version has gradually become the mainstream of the market, and there will be fewer and fewer physical versions in the future. As for whether “Final Fantasy VII Revelation” will eventually launch a physical version, Square Enix has not yet officially announced it, and players may have to wait for official news.
