Physical discs are truly becoming increasingly rare. Capcom stated in their latest financial report that the company expects approximately 95% of game sales to come from digital versions in the next fiscal year — a target that’s practically already been achieved. The company noted that the biggest driver of this trend is the PC market, which has been growing steadily in recent years, particularly Steam’s strong performance.
PC Becomes #1 Platform, Digital Sales Keep Climbing!
According to Capcom’s financial report, in the last fiscal year, 93% of game sales were already digital versions, with only about 7% being physical copies. For the next fiscal year, the company projects digital sales will increase to 95.4%.

On the other hand, PC has already become Capcom’s most important sales platform. The company has revealed that PC accounts for approximately half of total game sales, and that proportion continues to grow. After community members compiled the latest financial report data, it was pointed out that PC now accounts for about 60.4% of game sales — far exceeding all console platforms combined.

Physical Copies Haven’t Disappeared — But Their Share Will Only Keep Declining
While Capcom hasn’t announced plans to fully abandon physical releases, the financial reports and future projections show that digitalization is an irreversible trend. Recently, Sony’s discontinuation of some physical edition strategies and Ubisoft executives’ optimism about digitalization have sparked discussions. Now that even Capcom is projecting over 95% digital sales, many players are lamenting that collecting physical disc copies of games will only become increasingly difficult in the future.
