After months of rumors, Nintendo has finally officially announced the new Star Fox title. However, for many players, this news is half a surprise, especially the old players from Nintendo 64!
Nintendo has confirmed that Star Fox will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on June 25, 2026, as an exclusive. However, this time it is not a new sequel, but a remade version based on “Star Fox 64” (Star Fox 64/Star Fox 64).
Nintendo launches “Star Fox Direct” in a surprise move
The presentation method this time is also very Nintendo. The official announcement of “Star Fox Direct” was sudden, and it went live almost within a few minutes of the announcement, leaving many players with no time to react.
In the display content, you can see that the new version of “Star Fox” adopts fully updated graphics and reworked voice performances, while retaining the original level structure of “Star Fox 64”, but adding new cutscenes and some new content.
In other words, it is essentially still the familiar “Starfox 64”.
Players originally expected a new sequel

The “Star Fox” series has been in a semi-dormant state in recent years. Since the 2016 Wii U “Star Fox Zero” (Star Fox Zero), the series has not had a real new game for many years.

With the recent guest appearance of “Star Fox” characters in “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” and the continued rumors of new games, many players were expecting to see a truly new series of games.
Added multiplayer mode and mouse operation

Although it is a remastered version, Nintendo still added many new features. The most important new content is support for online PvP Battle Mode. Players can choose Team Star Fox or Team Star Wolf to fight.

In addition, the mouse operation function of Switch 2 is also officially supported. Players can aim through mouse mode instead of traditional analog joystick operation. The game also supports two-player co-op mode, where one person is responsible for driving and the other can shoot via the Joy-Con mouse mode.
All classic vehicles return
Nintendo also confirmed that “Star Fox” will retain the series’ classic vehicles, including the Arwing, Landmaster and Blue-Marine submarines. In addition, the game also adds a Challenge Mode, which allows you to re-challenge levels and complete new goals that do not exist in the main mode.
For veteran players, this part is obviously for nostalgia.
GameChat AR function becomes the strangest new element

One of the most special new features this time is the dedicated AR filter for Switch 2 GameChat. With a USB camera, players can turn themselves into “Star Fox” characters such as Fox McCloud, and the system will also change the character’s expressions synchronously based on facial movements.
In recent years, Nintendo has really liked to play with some very “Nintendo” things in terms of hardware functions.
Support NSO N64 handlebar

Officials also confirmed that “Star Fox” also supports the Nintendo Switch Online N64 controller, allowing players to play in a way close to the original version.
