LEGO officially releases Sega Genesis/Mega Drive console model set, which will go on sale in June for $40

LEGO has officially announced a new retro game console model set, this time starring the classic Sega Genesis / Mega Drive. The new product number is 40926 and is scheduled to be launched on June 1, 2026. It will cost US$39.99 and will be sold through the official LEGO website and authorized channels. The official pre-order arrangements have not yet been announced.

This is also the second time that LEGO has launched an official product with the theme of Sega’s classic console. It represents that the brand’s main game hardware collection series in recent years continues to expand.

479 bricks create the classic Genesis look

The entire set of 40926 Sega Genesis Console is built using 479 bricks, recreating the classic flip-up cassette console design of Sega Genesis. The completed model will be about 4 centimeters in height, 16 centimeters in width, and 12 centimeters in depth. It is positioned as a desktop display collection and is recommended for ages 12 and above.

In addition to the main body of the product, the product also includes a detachable game cartridge and two detachable controllers. Although it is not a large flagship set, the overall restoration is obviously designed to meet the needs of collectors.

One box contains both Genesis and Mega Drive versions

LEGO also took into account the differences in feelings of players in different regions this time. Decorative stickers are included in the box, allowing players to choose to assemble it into the North American version of Sega Genesis appearance, or the international version of Mega Drive style.

This means that whether you grew up watching the Genesis or you are more attached to the Mega Drive, you can choose your side this time without having to buy a second box.

Sonic easter egg hidden in cartridge slot

In addition to restoring the appearance of the console, the official also added a small detail that will make veteran players smile. When players open the cartridge slot cover, a Sonic the Hedgehog mosaic pattern can be seen inside.

This type of hidden easter eggs has become a common practice in LEGO game series in recent years. Compared with simple appearance reproduction, such details are often more attractive to the collector market.

Priced at US$40, the entry threshold is relatively affordable.

The 40926 Sega Genesis Console is priced at US$39.99, which is approximately NT$1,300, HK$312, and RM188. Judging from the LEGO game co-branded product line, the price this time is relatively affordable, giving more players the opportunity to buy it.

Compared with previous large console models that cost hundreds of dollars, this Genesis is obviously taking the small and medium-sized collection route.

The second Genesis theme, more accessible than its predecessor

This isn’t the first time LEGO has released Sega Genesis-themed merchandise. In September 2025, the official launched the Sonic the Hedgehog Sega Genesis Controller No. 40769, but it was a limited product with a full purchase and was discontinued about 30 days after its launch.

In contrast, this time the 40926 Sega Genesis Console is an official retail product and is no longer an event-limited product, making it easier for general players to purchase it directly.

LEGO retro console series continues to expand

Since the launch of the NES console model in 2020, LEGO has successively launched retro gaming hardware products such as Game Boy and Atari 2600. Now it has added Sega Genesis, which means that this collection series still has market appeal.

For many players, they might not have been able to afford a console back then, but now they can at least put it in a display cabinet.
