Broke Wizards: Wizards Struggle to Pay Rent in New Co-op Game from Scribblenauts Devs

Developed by 5th Cell, the team behind the Scribblenauts series, Broke Wizards is scheduled to launch on October 29. The game supports single-player and can be played with up to 6 players in co-op. The premise is straightforward: a group of wizards owe rent to a minor demon landlord, so they must constantly take on jobs to earn money for rent—or else they might end up being eaten by their landlord! In other words, this isn’t about heroes saving the world; it’s about wizards trying desperately to avoid becoming their landlord’s dinner because they can’t afford rent.

Head Into Town for Jobs—But Try Not to Destroy Everything!

The main setting is a fully destructible town where players zip around on magical skateboards, taking on various jobs to earn rent money. Job types aren’t limited to combat—they also include skateboard racing, puzzles, hide-and-seek, costume disguise minigames, and even a Snake-like game playable on in-game phones. What’s unique is that players need to watch their surroundings when defeating monsters, because if they cause too much chaos in town, it might affect their final pay. Even wizards working part-time need to worry about efficiency—destroying property might result in getting docked pay.

Paying Off Rent Is Just the Beginning?

After completing jobs and paying rent, players earn magic keys, and collecting enough keys grants them property ownership—allowing them to ultimately evict this minor demon landlord. Beyond working, players can watch videos together, play instruments, set off fireworks, or enter PvP arenas. Characters also feature customization options including hats, hoodies, wings, and magical skateboards, plus hatchable mini dragon pets with different appearances. The game already has a demo available on Steam, so interested players can gather friends to test it out and see if they can work together to pay off their debts—or end up six people destroying the house together.
