Since OD was first revealed in 2023, Hideo Kojima’s Xbox collaboration has been shrouded in mystery. While occasional updates have dropped over the years, this silence marks a stark contrast to Kojima’s typical style of dropping trailers and cryptic hints that send fans into a frenzy. Players have started wondering whether the game is even being made anymore.
Not abandoned – this time he genuinely doesn’t want to talk
Kojima recently addressed the lack of OD news on his radio show “KOJI10.” He stated that OD remains a “mystery,” but that doesn’t mean development has stalled. Instead, he’s intentionally keeping quiet, wanting to just drop the finished game on players. Kojima admitted that he usually loves dropping trailer after trailer, but this time he decided “I don’t want to reveal too much” – even he thinks this approach is unusual.

OD has been in development all along
Regarding development progress, Kojima revealed that filming is going smoothly. The team started shooting in June this year and will continue through the end of the year, followed by voice work and ADR that will extend into 2027. He explained that the SAG-AFTRA strike did impact development, but the team didn’t completely stop – they used stand-ins for temporary versions and are now gradually replacing them with the actual performances.

The less he says, the more we want to know!
Kojima still describes OD as a “completely different” new kind of game. Beyond featuring actors like Sophia Lillis and Hunter Schafer, the late actor Udo Kier also participated in filming. Earlier, Kojima hinted that this isn’t just a regular horror game – he wants to push the boundaries of the horror genre, even creating a mechanism that lets players too scared to continue still progress through the game. Now he’s tightened the information blackout even further, raising OD’s mystery factor even higher. It seems Kojima really wants to save the surprise for when players launch the game themselves.
