Grand Theft Auto VI is confirmed to launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026, but there’s been zero official word on a Nintendo Switch 2 version. Now a former Rockstar open world designer who worked on GTA 6, Jérémy Hartvick, has poured cold water on the Switch 2 port in a recent interview, calling it “not really worth it” — because if players really want to play GTA 6, they’ll likely just buy a console that can actually run it.
Cutting Graphics for Switch 2 Isn’t Worth It
Hartvick’s reasoning isn’t just about whether players will buy it — it’s also about the cost of the port itself. He believes that getting GTA 6 to run on Switch 2 would require Rockstar to invest significant time in optimization, potentially sacrificing some of the game experience and resulting in a “watered-down version” compared to the PS5 and Xbox versions. In his view, since core GTA players would probably just buy a PS5 to play the game, the question becomes whether Rockstar should really spend that much money on a version that might not deliver the same experience.

But Don’t Switch Players Actually Want GTA?
Interestingly, this argument isn’t entirely uncontested. The Switch does have a GTA player market — Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition actually launched on Nintendo Switch, so you can’t just say Nintendo players aren’t interested in GTA. The more realistic issue is how much technical cost would be required to deliver a reasonable GTA 6 experience on Switch 2, given the game’s massive open world, physics simulation, and numerous systems.

Mobile Might Have a Chance?
Even more interestingly, Hartvick thinks that if Rockstar really wants to bring GTA 6 to other devices, mobile isn’t entirely off the table. He points out that today’s technology has proven high-end mobile devices can run major AAA titles, and cloud streaming could even let players experience GTA 6. But that’s still just his personal opinion — Rockstar hasn’t announced any official plans for Switch 2, mobile, or PC versions. The confirmed launch platforms remain PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only.
