“Vapor World: Over The Mind” originally accumulated a lot of expectations with more than 100,000 Steam wish lists, and was regarded by players as a Soulslike platform action game worthy of attention. However, after entering Steam Early Access on August 18, the reviews dropped to only about 25% positive. The main problem isn’t that the combat is too difficult, but that players focus almost all their firepower on the game’s obvious AI-generated content.
AI dubbing and AI cutscenes will make players unable to watch them!
Developer ALIVE Inc. has previously disclosed an AI usage statement on the Steam page, admitting that the game uses generative AI to produce some voices and cutscenes, but emphasized that these contents are produced and reviewed by the team during development and are not generated instantly when the game is running. However, players obviously did not pay for it. Many Steam comments directly criticized the AI dubbing and cutscenes for being too obvious, and even believed that these contents seriously ruined the game experience.

It’s actually quite reasonable for players to think this way.
In the face of a large number of negative reviews, Young Kim, director of “Vapor World: Over The Mind”, also posted a response on Steam, admitting that he underestimated players’ dislike of generative AI. He said that he originally adopted AI because he thought it could achieve performance that was difficult to achieve with existing resources, allowing the team to spend more time on the game itself. But he now admits that if players feel that “the developers didn’t put enough effort into it” after seeing the screen, that is actually a reasonable interpretation.

You want to rely on AI to save time, but the player ends up helping you settle the score!
