Single Player Tarkov (SPT), a well-known stand-alone project that has accompanied players of “Escape from Tarkov” for more than six years, is officially announced to have entered history. The SPT development team confirmed that after receiving a trademark infringement notice from developer Battlestate Games, it will gradually shut down the website, Forge platform and update servers before August 12, declaring that this stand-alone version that is loved by players has officially come to an end.
The official sent out a trademark notice and the team announced the end of the project.
The SPT team stated that Battlestate Games believed that the project used the “Tarkov” trademark as the website domain and brand name, and therefore requested to stop related use. Although the team was still discussing follow-up plans, due to the leakage of internal documents, it was finally forced to issue an announcement in advance. Frankly: “This is the end of the current team and the SPT project in its current form.”
The website will be closed, but the code will remain
According to the announcement, SPT Forge, the official website and patch release service will cease operations, and the GitHub project will also be renamed and sealed to remove all trademark content related to “Escape from Tarkov”. However, the team also emphasized that the source code will still be retained. If other developers are willing to take over in the future, there will still be an opportunity to continue the project under a new name and form. But it is still unknown whether anyone will actually take over.
Players wailed: This is the version I really want to play
Since its launch between 2019 and 2020, SPT has attracted the support of a large number of “Escape from Tarkov” players because it provides offline play, free mods, no plug-ins, and no forced PvP. Many players even bluntly said that they bought “Escape from Tarkov” just to play SPT.
Now that the project has been announced to be over, the community is also wailing. Some players believe that the official is only protecting their intellectual property rights, but others criticize that the official has personally shut down the “most fun version of “Escape from Tarkov” in the hearts of many players.”
