Sony has recently continued to promote the full digitization of PlayStation. From announcing that it will stop launching physical disc games from 2028 to a number of strategies surrounding the digital ecosystem, many players are quite dissatisfied. Overseas communities have recently seen discussions on “Digital Games Boycott”, calling on players to stop buying digital games from the PlayStation Store, hoping to express their dissatisfaction with Sony over the gradual disappearance of physical versions.
Sony will only listen if you don’t spend money
The players who started the discussion believe that if everyone verbally opposes it and ends up buying the digital version of the game anyway, there is no reason for Sony to change its strategy. Therefore, they call on players to support the physical versions that are still available as much as possible, or to temporarily stop purchasing digital games, hoping to put pressure on Sony through consumer behavior and make the official refocus on the physical market.
However, many players believe that since more and more works are now only available in digital versions, and many people are using PS5 Digital Edition, the number of people who can actually participate in the boycott is actually quite limited.
The players themselves are not sure whether they can succeed or not.
