Just as Xbox was reporting large-scale layoffs and studio reorganization news, Arkane Lyon, the developer of “Marvel’s Blade”, suddenly experienced major personnel changes. According to French corporate registration information, Jerk Gustafsson, who co-founded MachineGames and created the “Wolfenstein” series and “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle”, has taken over as head of Arkane, replacing Leonard Bendel. However, reporter Jason Schreier later added that this handover was actually completed several months ago and only recently became official.
If you pass on the front foot, you may be cut off, but on the back foot, a new manager will be airborne!
What is even more intriguing is that the timing of this personnel change is quite sensitive. It was only recently reported that Xbox is internally evaluating multiple restructuring plans. “Marvel’s Blade” was even rumored to be in danger of being canceled, and Arkane was also named as possibly being axed or sold. Now that the former head of Machine Games has suddenly taken over, many players have begun to speculate that this may mean that Xbox still intends to keep Arkane instead of closing the studio directly.

Marvel’s Blade remains mysterious
Since “Marvel’s Blade” was released in 2023, the official has released almost no new actual footage. It is currently known that the game will be created by the development team of “Dishonored” and “Deathloop”. It adopts a third-person action-adventure gameplay. The story stage is set in Paris. Players will play the vampire hunter Blade to fight against the vampire forces sweeping the city. Now that a new director has taken office, many players are looking forward to this long-dormant new game getting back on track.

Changing the boss is at least better than closing the studio
At present, Xbox has not officially stated whether this personnel adjustment is related to the overall reorganization. However, when there are rumors that Arkane may be shut down, the company has chosen to arrange for a new and experienced director to take over, which somewhat adds a glimmer of hope for the future of “Marvel’s Blade”. At least for now, it seems that the “development cancellation” that players least want to see has not come true yet.
