“The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess” has recently seen unofficial PC native port news again, and this time it is not just a simple emulator gameplay, but a native version that is truly remastered for the PC platform.
A project called “Dusk” was officially announced a few days ago. This is a PC native porting project based on the GameCube version of “The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.” The development team stated that this version will support high resolution, lift the FPS cap, material and shadow adjustments, cheat functions, custom models and texture packs, and even add some features from the Wii and Wii U HD versions.
Contents including the Wii version’s mirror mode, motion-sensing aiming, and the Wii U HD version’s free-view mode have all been ported.
Supports Windows, macOS, Linux and even Steam Deck
According to public information from the development team, Dusk currently supports Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS and Steam Deck.
Players can download it through the TwilitRealm official website or GitHub, but like most such projects, they still need to prepare legal game files to play.
And this isn’t the only PC native porting plan for The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.
Because another project called “Courage Reborn” has actually been exposed earlier, and the two projects are currently being developed by different teams.
The two transplant teams actually support each other
What’s special is that although Dusk and Courage Reborn are both working on the PC nativeization of “The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess”, there is currently no conflict between the two parties.
According to the introduction, members of the Dusk team come from the Twilight Princess Decompilation team, the Speedrun community, and the Aurora team Twilit Realm. The FAQs of both parties even publicly stated that they support each other and that there is no disagreement because the plans are being carried out separately.
The PC version even supports ultrawide screens and 120FPS
According to the current public information, Dusk will support up to 120FPS. The developer said that this is achieved through skeleton interpolation technology, which uses interpolation operations between the character skeleton and animation frames.
In addition, players can also enable features such as ultra-wide screen support, larger wallet capacity, faster climbing speed, and Wii mirror mode.
The team has not ruled out the possibility of adding Wii Remote motion sensing support in the future, but it has not yet been officially confirmed at this stage.
“Twilight Princess” has been one of the most wanted “Zelda” remakes for many years.
“The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess” has always been a very popular game among players.
In particular, the GameCube and Wii original versions still have a large number of fans. In addition, the work itself has a dark and realistic style, which is actually quite unique in the entire “Zelda” series.
Therefore, in recent years, whether it is HD, modularization or PC porting related plans, in fact, they have never stopped.
Nowadays, even true native PC ports are beginning to appear, and two teams are developing simultaneously at one time. To a certain extent, it also means that the reverse engineering community’s research on “Twilight Princess” has entered another stage.
