Do you think The Division started out as cover shooting? Ubisoft revealed that the early version is actually more like an MMORPG game like “World of Warcraft”!

Ubisoft disclosed in the “Devs Playing” review video that the early days of the first generation of “The Division (The Division/The Division)” did not have the current cover-shooting and loading rhythm, but more of an MMORPG design idea, and even the skill hotkey bar was obvious. This means that it starts out more like an online role-playing game than a pure tactical shooter.

The current core combat cycle was hard-edged in the middle and late stages!

The developer mentioned that the team gradually established the OPE (Observe, Plan, Execute: Observe, Plan, Execute) rhythm. In other words, the signature feel of “The Division” is not inherent, but the MMO skeleton has been reshaped through repeated iterations into a third-person battle with a greater sense of pressure and decision-making.

The official also released super early footage

A few seconds of prototype footage in the video shows that the visual style at that time was more cartoony than today, and the interface and functions were closer to traditional large-scale online games. The developer also mentioned that there was a dog companion mechanism, which made many players start to wonder if this idea could be brought back if the series returns in a new game.

The masterpiece we are familiar with is actually a version of success.

The current “The Division” and “The Division 2” are indeed fun, but looking back at this development history, you will see more clearly how a game has changed from almost another genre to today. It is not done right the first time, but cut and modified along the way, and finally it becomes what players recognize.
