You don’t want to be criticized for the Harry Potter version of Stardew Valley, so you force it to be more unique before releasing it? “Witchbrook” has been waiting for 10 years and is finally here!

Chuckefish’s magical life simulation Witchbrook has been waiting for almost a generation. It’s still on the way, but official word is that it will launch this year. But the core reason behind this ten-year delay is very practical: the team no longer wants to be defined in one sentence as “Harry Potter meets “Stardew Valley (Stardew Valley/Stardew Valley)”, so it would rather spend time on drawing out the differences and making the work more unique.

If you act like it, you will be immediately seen through by the players.

Chuckefish Chief Operating Officer Donna Orlowski said that the team’s most important goal during development is to ensure that the finished product can both meet its own expectations and be worthy of players who have seen many good works. The life simulation track has long been crowded, and masterpieces and masterpieces have established clear content boundaries and characteristics, such as “Stardew Valley”, “Harvest Moon (Harvest Story/Harvest Story)”, and “My Time at Sandrock (Sandstone Town Time/Sandstone Town Time)” are all mature. If “Witchbrook” just replicates the familiar formula again, players won’t actually pay for it!

The team decided to change the focus and tear off the label that everyone loves to compare it to!

Orlowski also bluntly said that when they pushed forward the project with all their strength in 2019, the most talked about outside world was “Harry Potter meets Stardew Valley.” The team later deliberately moved the development direction to be more unique, which became the main reason for the delay, because to avoid overly intuitive comparisons, you have to re-polished the system and the overall atmosphere so that the game does not look like a splicing of those games at first glance.

Once the magic theme becomes familiar, it will be attacked by both sides at the same time.

The Magic Campus can easily remind people of the world view of “Harry Potter”; and the life simulation will be compared with “Stardew Valley” in terms of content density and rhythm. The team believes that if it only relies on witchcraft as a selling point, it will become a head-on confrontation with “Hogwarts Legacy/Hogwarts Legacy” and other life simulation works. In recent years, there are also works that also follow the “witchcraft and warm life”, such as “Wylde Flowers (Magic Flowers/Magic Flowers)”, which received good reviews in 2022, and will even raise the standards of players.

Entering the world and not wanting to leave is the key to winning or losing in this type of game.

Orlowski said that he is satisfied with the current development status. The team is focusing on the simulation itself and hopes that players will not want to leave after entering the game world. In addition, relatively complete actual footage was released last year, which also makes the outside world feel that this time the wait may really have an answer. At least compared to the silent period of almost no major updates in the past five years, the current signals are significantly more positive.
