Old game fans are in luck! Game publisher Hamster has announced that it will Namco’s 1988 isometric action platformer Märchen Maze comes to NS and PS4, and this will be the first time the game is released in English!
Alice’s Big Adventure, but this time you have a bubble gun!
Märchen Maze is inspired by “Alice in Wonderland” and “Through the Looking Glass”, but compared with the original work, players will control a little girl Alice, was taken into the fantasy world in the mirror by the White Rabbit, and fought against the Evil Queen’s men.
Games share Nine levels, the scene design is full of psychedelic style, and the enemies are various weird and colorful characters. And the most interesting thing is that Alice’s main weapon turns out to be——Bubble attack! Yes, players have to use bubbles to deal with enemies and challenge various difficult levels and boss battles.
A look back at past versions: From PC Engine to Wii Virtual Console
Although “Märchen Maze” was famous in arcades in the 1980s, its porting process to home consoles was quite bumpy:
- 1990 PC Engine Edition: Changed to a top-down perspective, which is very different from the original version.
- 1991 X68000 Edition: The closest port to the arcade version, recreating the isometric perspective.
- 2009 Wii Virtual Console Edition: Completely restore the arcade version, but only in Japan.
Now, the game is finally coming to the Western market, allowing more players to experience this forgotten Namco classic.
