“Legacy of Kain: Defiance Remastered” was originally scheduled to be released this week, but now it has put on the brakes at the last minute. Developer Crystal Dynamics has confirmed that the Switch and Switch 2 versions will be postponed. The new launch date has not yet been announced, only saying that it will be launched “at a later time.”

Crystal Dynamics stated in the official announcement that the Switch and Switch 2 versions require more time to adjust, so they decided to postpone the launch, and recommended that players pay attention to the official social platform for follow-up news. As for other platform versions, the original plan for launch is still maintained. In other words, if you originally planned to revisit this classic dark fantasy on Switch, you may have to wait a little longer.

Classic vampire series returns

“Legacy of Kain: Defiance Remastered” is a remastered version of the classic dark fantasy series “Legacy of Kain”. The story once again takes players back to the dark world of Nosgoth. Players will simultaneously control the vampire Kain and the betrayed lieutenant Raziel. The fate of the two characters is intertwined in the conflict of “fate and free will.”

The main purpose of this remake is to allow a new generation of players to re-experience this classic series, while retaining the core story and character charm of the original work. For veteran players, the character combination of Kain and Raziel, who “betray each other and are entangled with each other”, is still one of the most representative settings in the entire series.

Another new work is still launched as usual

Also announced with “Defiance Remastered” is a new game in the series, “Legacy of Kain: Ascendance”. This work is a prequel story before “Soul Reaver”. It uses a 2D action platform gameplay, focusing on high-speed vertical movement and skill-based combat.

The game style adopts retro pixel graphics and anime-style cutscenes, as well as some PS1 era-style 3D sequences. Crystal Dynamics said that storytelling remains a core element of the game, and players will embark on an adventure among shattered kingdoms, cursed ruins and chaotic timelines.

Currently, “Legacy of Kain: Ascendance” still maintains its release plan on March 31, 2026, and is not affected by the delay.

The delay of the Switch version is actually not a surprise

Although the official reason for the delay was not stated, temporary delays on the Switch platform are actually not uncommon in recent years. Many multi-platform games often require additional time for performance optimization or version adjustments in the final stages, especially if the Switch and Switch 2 are released at the same time.

For players, the postponement is of course a bit disappointing, but at least for now it is just a postponement rather than a cancellation. If a more stable version is eventually brought, most players will probably be willing to wait a few more weeks.
