Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Wolverine drew genuinely mixed-to-polarising reviews on launch, but that has clearly not stopped players from opening their wallets. According to market research firm Circana’s September 2026 US sales data, the PS5 exclusive beat NBA 2K27 and EA Sports FC 27 to take the top spot for all games sold in the United States that month. Whatever the critics think, Wolverine’s claws are still more than capable of tearing through the sales charts.
Europe Performs Just as Well
Beyond the US sales crown, Marvel’s Wolverine also delivered a strong showing on the PlayStation Store’s September download charts, taking first place on the PS5 download charts in the US and Canada and second in Europe, losing only to the locally dominant EA Sports FC 27. Notably, NBA 2K27 placed third in the US and Canada but fell to eighth in Europe, showing Wolverine outsold the year’s premier basketball release across both major markets. It is worth keeping in mind that the PlayStation Store rankings track digital downloads, which is a separate dataset from Circana’s US sales figures — and digital skew favours new releases.

Reviews Polarised, Demand Very Much Not
Insomniac built a strong reputation with the Marvel’s Spider-Man series, but Marvel’s Wolverine launched to noticeably split reviews, with some critics arguing the gameplay lacked breakthroughs or was even overly simplified. None of that dented sales. Meanwhile, Grand Theft Auto V, more than a decade old, still sits at fifth on the European PS5 download chart — a reminder that new releases do not easily push the old guard off the board. For Southeast Asian players, the practical takeaway is that a discounted physical copy or a digital sale may remain the cheapest way in, and with the PS5 platform leaning this hard into chart-topping exclusives, expect Wolverine to stay in platform promotions for a good while longer.
