The October 2026 Steam Next Fest brought thousands of game demos to the store, and the sheer volume of demos made with generative AI left plenty of players and developers unhappy. And yet, in the middle of that very argument, a cyberpunk shop-management game called Probably Stolen broke through: it topped the single-player demos chart for the Steam Next Fest, and — hold on — its entire premise is fighting back against rogue AI. The sight of an endless flood of AI-made games while the anti-AI game is the most popular one in the festival is fairly ironic.
Black Market Dealer by Day, Gunfighter Against AI by Night
Developed by Questing Goose Studio and published by tinyBuild, Probably Stolen mixes shop management, criminal trade and role-playing elements, letting players run their own store in a dangerous cyberpunk city. You can craft, sell and even smuggle goods of questionable origin, and pass off counterfeits as the real thing — but every customer might be an investigator, a revolutionary or some other dangerous figure, and one wrong move can bring serious trouble your way.

Things get more intense from there, because players also have to face synthetic humans who have been taken over by out-of-control AI. So on top of running your business, you may need to pull out a gun to stay alive — basically running a black market operation inside Cyberpunk 2077.

98% Overwhelmingly Positive
The game also offers 10 specialisations, including rat breeder, organ dealer and arms dealer, paired with 25 different abilities so players can decide for themselves how they want to run their shop. According to GamesRadar+, the Probably Stolen demo had accumulated around 2,000 player reviews at the time of writing, with a whopping 98% of them positive — even one outside editor admitted to getting so absorbed that they missed their boss’s meeting reminder. The full game is expected to launch on October 28, 2026, and whether this anti-AI pitch can keep winning over players on a platform still roiling with AI controversy will depend on how the full version performs.
