The original msx2 version of magic bubble is officially available on switch eshop: There are already a lot of “Puyo Puyo” games available on Switch

There are already a lot of “Puyo Puyo” games available on Switch, from SEGA AGES to “Puyo Puyo Champions” and even “Magic Bubble x Tetris”, but now this ancestral game may catch your attention: D4 Enterprise announced that it will bring the 1991 MSX2 original “Puyo Puyo” to the Switch eShop, allowing players to directly experience the “most original, oldest, and purest” bubble-matching pleasure!

In 1991, MSX2 was released simultaneously with the Famicom disk version.

This MSX2 version is the original “Magic Bubble” launched by Compile in 1991. In the same year, the Famicom disk version was also launched as a magazine bonus, even earlier than the enhanced arcade version launched by SEGA the following year. Because this version is too early, because it is still in the first generation stage, the MSX2 version does not have the story mode that everyone is familiar with later, but the gameplay is more pure. There are only two modes under the single-player mode: Endless is to eliminate you all the way until you can’t hold on, and Mission is to give you a specific goal in each level. Of course, two-player battles are also included, but the overall structure is closer to the prototype of the game, which is very suitable for old fans to study the origins of the series.

MSX is a “unified standard for home computers” developed by Microsoft Japan and ASCII in 1983, allowing major brands such as Sony, Panasonic, and Toshiba to produce compatible models, forming a common cross-brand platform. Its performance is roughly equivalent to the early Famicom: Z80A processor, simple PSG sound effects and basic graphics mode. It was an important computer ecosystem in Japan and Europe in the 1980s.

MSX2 is an enhanced version launched in 1985. It upgraded the display chip and color number, and can present a more delicate 256-color picture and a larger capacity of game content. As a result, more representative works such as “Metal Gear” and “Magic Bubble MSX2 Edition” were born. To put it simply, MSX is the basic platform, while MSX2 is the generation that comprehensively advances the overall graphics and gaming standards.

No added materials, no translation, just copy the original flavor

This launch still follows the tradition of the EGGCONSOLE series: transplanted as it is, no additional functions, no re-translation, what you buy is the original flavor of the 1991 MSX2 version.Priced at $6.49, it’s very affordable and has a collection value above all else.

It’s worth noting that this is the second time D4 Enterprise has dropped a Magic Bubble remaster this year. As early as August, they mentioned that they would also bring the 1993 PC-98 version to the Switch, but it was suddenly postponed. The outside world speculated that the reason may be licensing issues caused by the misuse of M2’s MEG-DOS (PC-98 compatible DOS emulator), resulting in the subsequent failure to launch as scheduled.
