Remember Abandoned, the game that had players convinced it was secretly a Hideo Kojima project? This PS5 survival horror shooter, developed by Blue Box Game Studios, was announced in 2021 and immediately fell into long-term controversy—some players even joked it was “the horror game that doesn’t actually exist.” Now it’s suddenly reappeared on the PlayStation Store, with the page now directly marking a 2027 release window, bringing this dormant game back into the spotlight.
Just How Absurd Was It Back Then?
What Abandoned was most famous for wasn’t actually the game itself—it was the “Is this actually Kojima doing something?” conspiracy theory. Players started speculating from the dark forest and sparse trees in the game trailer, with some even connecting Blue Box Game Studios to Kojima Productions’ “Box”. To make things more ridiculous, since Death Stranding protagonist Sam had carried blue boxes and orange boxes appeared in the game, players used complementary color theory to speculate that “Blue Box” might contain hidden Kojima clues. Blue Box later directly denied any connection to Kojima, but the guessing game had already gotten out of control.

No Trailer, No Demo—Instead It Just Got “Deleted”
The problem is, fast forward to 2022, Blue Box announced the game was indefinitely delayed, and the promised playable Prologue never really materialized. After that, the studio gradually stopped their social activities, and their YouTube channel even stopped showing Abandoned’s original trailer. Players started doubting whether the game actually existed at all. After a few years, Abandoned in player circles was even directly labeled a “scam.”

Do Players Really Dare to Trust It Now?
Now that Abandoned is back on the PlayStation Store, at least proves the game hasn’t completely vanished from existence, and the page currently shows a 2027 release. However, the problem is the game description is still just a very brief “realistic-focused survival horror shooter”—no official release date, no new full gameplay demo, and no evidence development has reached its final stages. In other words, this resurrection is worth noting, but it’s still a far cry from “it’s actually coming out.”
