At BlizzCon 2026’s opening ceremony, Blizzard officially announced that the classic dark fantasy game Diablo will get a brand new animated series, co-produced with Netflix. Blizzard president Johanna Faries said the project is currently in development and will bring the world of Diablo to another screen. Further details on storyline, art style, and release date remain under wraps.
Is Diablo Just the First Step?
Even more interesting: Faries didn’t frame this as a single project, hinting that Diablo might just be the beginning of Blizzard’s cross-media push. She mentioned that beyond Diablo, Blizzard is also discussing potential film and TV adaptations with other creative teams. Overwatch and Warcraft were both mentioned, though no animated series or shows have entered production yet.

Blizzard Has No Shortage of Work!
The animation news conveniently coincides with the Diablo series’ 30th anniversary. Beyond the Netflix anime, Blizzard also revealed Diablo V is expected in Spring 2029, set in a post-apocalyptic world where “Diablo has already won.” Meanwhile, Diablo IV is getting a new Amazon class and Switch 2 version. In short, Blizzard is now working on games and animation simultaneously—Sanctuary is about to fill player screens on all fronts.
