GTA 6 Players Need to Sleep or Get Punished for Being Tired

Grand Theft Auto VI is pushing “life simulation” to a whole new level. Rockstar North co-studio head and development lead Rob Nelson revealed that the game’s built-in health app will track Jason and Lucia’s sleep status — if the characters don’t get enough rest, certain ability recovery rates will be affected.

It’s Not Just Sleep — Eat Too Much and You’ll Actually Get Fat, Muscles Will Disappear Too!

Rockstar isn’t just tracking sleep this time around. Jason and Lucia will gradually gain weight if they eat too much, and if players stop maintaining their training, the muscles they’ve built will slowly disappear. This system actually builds on the character body mechanics from GTA: San Andreas and Red Dead Redemption 2, but GTA 6 takes it further — making character physical condition more dependent on player daily habits.

Criminal Career Means Taking Care of Your Car Too — No Gas or Battery Means No Racing

It gets even more extreme — Rockstar is actually requiring players to fill up their vehicles with gas or charge them. Spend too much time committing crimes and driving around wild, your car won’t always have free gasoline to burn. Combined with the fact that staying up late might affect your character’s appearance, and the game even lets players browse fictional social media, GTA 6 is gradually shifting from a “crime sandbox” to “Florida Life Management Simulator.” The one saving grace: Rockstar eventually decided “refilling your own fridge” was going too far and didn’t keep that mechanic.

Players Really Can’t Wing It This Time

Rockstar clearly wants GTA 6’s world to feel more realistic, and these systems are designed to make your choices actually matter. Whether this depth enhances the experience or becomes another layer of micromanagement remains to be seen — but one thing’s for sure: casual joyriding just got a lot more complicated.
