
Patrice Désilets, the former main creator of “Assassin Creed”, recently overturned due to AI material issues. His new work “1666: Amsterdam (1666: Amsterdam)” was discovered by players in the Steam free trial demo that there were paintings suspected to be generated by AI. In the face of doubts, Désilets admitted that the team had indeed used generative AI in the early development stages. What was even more embarrassing was that he bluntly said that the team had become so accustomed to seeing it that they did not even realize that it was AI.

Désilets explained that during the development process, small teams will use AI to quickly generate a large number of different versions of materials. For example, dozens of variations can be obtained in a few seconds, which is indeed very convenient for teams with limited manpower. This is where the problem lies. Since the team has been exposed to these AI materials for a long time, some of the content did not undergo sufficient manual modification and inspection, and was eventually mixed into the demo. He said the team did make an oversight and apologized for it.

Will AI materials no longer appear in the official version?
At present, the development team has promised that the official version of “1666: Amsterdam” will completely remove generative AI materials. Désilets said that after players discovered the AI paintings in the Demo, he had asked the members in charge of art to reprocess the relevant content. Currently, all the paintings in the Demo have been replaced with real artificially created materials. He also emphasized that AI-generated assets will no longer be used in future games.
