Now “Stardew Valley” has long become an independent game legend, but few people know that this global best-selling masterpiece was almost aborted. Developer Eric Barone (ConcernedApe) recently recalled that when he was developing the game for about a year, his computer suddenly failed and he did not make any backup. At that time, he even thought that the game was hopeless and almost canceled the entire project.
Fortunately, the hard drive was saved!
Eric Barone said that at that time, he was still developing “Stardew Valley” alone, without a team, a complete development process, and even the most basic backup. After the computer suddenly failed, he thought that all his hard work over the years was lost. Fortunately, he finally succeeded in retrieving the data from the old hard drive and built a new computer, so that game development could continue.

Looking back at the time, he admitted that the entire development process was actually “very messy.” The code and work flow were almost all fumbled along the way. Looking back now, even he feels that it was a miracle that he was able to successfully complete and launch the game.

Players almost never get to play Stardew Valley!
“Stardew Valley” became an instant hit after its launch in 2016. It not only became a masterpiece of farm simulation games, but also influenced countless subsequent independent games. Looking back now, if the hard drive really couldn’t be saved, “Stardew Valley” might not have come out at all, let alone subsequent updates and “Haunted Chocolatier” that is under development.

It can only be said that now everyone knows to remember to back up, but Eric Barone’s experience proves that sometimes the only thing between a masterpiece and “disappearing forever” is a hard drive that can still be read.
