Want to do too much but don’t have the money? “Spyro: A Realm Beyond” developer admits to reluctantly deleting a lot of ideas

“Spyro: A Realm Beyond”, a new work that has been released for the first time in 18 years, is a long-awaited new work by many old players. However, developer Toys for Bob recently admitted that the team actually thought of a lot of interesting new gameplay, but due to development time and budget, many of the ideas had to be reluctantly abandoned and could not be put into the game.

Creative but no budget

Studio head Paul Yan said that the team constantly came up with various “cool ideas” during the development process, but the reality was not the wishing fountain after all. Every time a new feature is added, it means investing more time, manpower, and resources. Therefore, the development team must constantly make choices and keep the content that can truly improve the game experience, while the rest can only be temporarily abandoned.

He also revealed that this is the first new original work in the series in many years, and the team hopes to use it as a starting point for the series to restart, rather than cramming all the ideas in at once, causing the entire project to get out of control.

Instead of drawing a big picture, it is better to take the first step steadily

“Spyro: A Realm Beyond” is expected to be launched in the spring of 2027. Toys for Bob has previously stated that it hopes this is just the beginning of a new series and that there will be more works to continue to develop in the future. In other words, those ideas that are too late to be realized this time do not have no chance at all, they just have to wait for the next time.

It can only be said that what many players are most afraid of hearing is “content being cut”, but sometimes it is more practical to put the brakes on at the right time than to try to do everything and end up with nothing. At least, rather than drawing a bunch of pie and not being able to deliver it at the end, if you make the first one well, players may be more willing to pay for it.
