Over the past two years, with Forza Horizon 5 and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle landing on PlayStation, many players started believing Microsoft had given up on exclusivity. Whenever Xbox announces a new game, comments always ask: “How long until it comes to PS5?”
According to Xbox’s official statement, two first-party titles—Clockwork Revolution and Gears of War: E-Day—will remain exclusive to Xbox and PC, with no plans for other platforms. The announcement sparked immediate discussion, especially given Microsoft’s recent push for cross-platform play.
Looking at Microsoft’s recent moves, the strategy has become quite interesting. While Sea of Thieves, Hi-Fi Rush, and Forza Horizon 5 have indeed landed on PlayStation, Microsoft continues to emphasize that certain core IPs will remain exclusive. In other words, Xbox is now carefully cherry-picking which titles to keep and which to share.
Community reaction was surprisingly polarized. Some Xbox players view this as good news—consoles need exclusive titles to attract users to the ecosystem. However, many PlayStation fans are disappointed, since Microsoft’s frequent cross-platform moves over the past two years led many to believe all Xbox games would eventually come to PS5. Now that Xbox has drawn a clear line, it’s the first time the company has explicitly set boundaries.
