When Nintendo officially announced the remake of “The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time”, most players were discussing whether the graphics, Link’s new look, and gameplay would be significantly changed. But foreign media Kotaku is focusing on another thing. Will those “strange characters” that left a deep impression on countless players back then retain their original flavor?
What players fear most is to fix the weirdo to normal!
Kotaku recently compiled a list of “weird characters we most want to see in the remake,” including the zombie-like Redead, the mysterious Happy Mask Salesman, the Hobgoblin, and a bunch of rather abstract-looking frog characters.

The reason is actually very simple. The reason why “Ocarina of Time” has become a classic is not only because of the dungeon design and plot, but also because there are some characters living in Hyrule who seem to have some brain problems: some are weird, some are scary, and some even make people completely confused about what the designer ate back then. But it is this weirdness full of 90s Nintendo style that makes the whole world unique!

Players are beginning to worry whether Nintendo will smooth out the corners
Since the content of the trailer released so far is quite limited, and players have almost only seen the new version of Link and part of the graphic style, the outside world has begun to speculate on how faithful this remake will be to the original work. Especially in recent years, many remakes like to redesign the characters to be more reasonable and modern. The problem is that one of the most charming aspects of “Ocarina of Time” is that it is not reasonable in the first place. If one day the happy mask merchant suddenly turns into a normal person, the big goblin turns into a fairy-like beauty, and even the inexplicable-looking NPCs are made beautiful, it will feel wrong.

The real test begins now
“Ocarina of Time” has always been regarded as one of the greatest works in gaming history, so this remake has been under tremendous pressure from the moment it was released. Of course, players hope that the graphics will be more beautiful and the operation will be smoother, but at the same time, they also hope that Nintendo will remember one thing: it is not just Link that everyone misses, but also the group of Hyrule residents who looked strange, behaved strangely, and are even a little creepy looking back now. After all, sometimes a classic becomes a classic not because it’s normal, but because it’s weird enough!
