58% of players are opposed to DLSS 5’s screen changes, and players are beginning to have doubts about AI’s involvement in game visuals

After NVIDIA released DLSS 5 this year, in addition to sparking discussions about performance and AI image generation technology, the player community’s attitude towards the technology itself seems to have begun to diverge significantly.

According to TechPowerUp’s latest voting results, nearly 20,000 readers participated in the opinion survey on DLSS 5, and as many as 58% of players selected “AI should not change game content”, becoming the highest proportion of options in this vote.

This group of players believes that AI should not modify the light and shadow, materials, character faces or other screen performance content in the game.

Many players choose to continue to wait and see

In addition to players who are opposed to AI modifying the game screen, another 28% of players said they hope to see the real game effects before deciding their attitude.

This also means that many players are not completely negative about DLSS 5 at present, but hope to wait until the technology officially enters the actual game before observing the final effect.

In comparison, the proportion of players who support the attitude is much smaller.

Only about 8% of players believe that the picture effect of DLSS 5 is even better than native rendering, and about 6% of players said that they are willing to accept AI to change the game picture as long as it can improve FPS.

DLSS 5 will introduce real-time neural rendering technology

NVIDIA officially announced DLSS 5 in March and described it as an instant neural rendering technology.

According to NVIDIA, DLSS 5 can use AI to generate more realistic light, shadow and material effects in real time, while still using the original game screen and dynamic information as the basis.

DLSS 5 is expected to be officially launched this fall, and it is generally believed that it will be the first to support GeForce RTX 50 series graphics cards.

Players are beginning to worry about AI directly changing game presentation

The results of this vote also reflect that some players are beginning to have doubts about AI directly intervening in the game screen.

After all, DLSS used to mainly focus on resolution improvement and frame filling, but DLSS 5 has begun to further involve picture details and visual presentation itself.

For some players, whether AI should be directly involved in game art presentation seems to have become a more debatable issue than performance improvement.
