My Nintendo Store is changing its name! So what? Player: This is really the most unnecessary update this year

Nintendo recently suddenly announced that starting from May 27, 2026, the official online store My Nintendo Store will officially be renamed to a simpler and more straightforward Nintendo Store. Yes, the point is to take that “My” off. There is no feature update, no system reform, just a name change. In other words, how you originally bought games, redeemed Platinum Points, and ordered peripherals will still be the same in the future, but the URL and name will become more like the names that normal people would call.

Player reactions are funnier than the name change itself

After this incident was made public, the player community immediately entered complaining mode. Someone joked: Nintendo took my store away. Some people directly joked that it should be called Our Nintendo Store now. Some people even complained on Reddit that such a small name change can still make an announcement, which is as serious as a technology company changing its logo.

But to be honest, Nintendo’s name change this time is actually not too surprising. Because the mobile app they launched last year was already directly called “Nintendo Store” and did not continue to use the name “My Nintendo Store”. Now it’s more like unifying the entire brand.

The real problem is that no one is calling them by their full names at all.

Most players will never talk about My Nintendo Store in its entirety. Many people simply call it eShop. So although this name change may seem like a big move, the actual impact on players is probably similar to the Switch console theme color update.
