After years of development, the “Tomb Raider” fan project “Tomb Raider: Side Scroller Edition” is finally officially launched! Developer Delca also said that it can now be downloaded and played for free through TRCustoms! This project will be developed from at least 2022 and is produced by developers Delca and Trxye who have participated in “Tomb Raider: Remastered”. The content will redesign the classic series into a 2.5D side-scrolling gameplay, with a unique flavor.
Recreate classic scenes with 2.5D side scrolling
“Tomb Raider: Side Scroller Edition” transforms the original 3D exploration-based game experience into a side-scrolling perspective, and redesigns levels and traps, allowing players to revisit familiar locations in a different way.
The game includes a total of 10 levels, taking the protagonist Lara Croft to classic scenes such as India, Greece and Venice, while adding new platform jumping challenges and level mechanisms.
Collection elements and hidden levels are added simultaneously
In terms of content design, the work adds 100 optional collectibles “Golden Crystals” for players to challenge and collect them all.
When the player successfully collects all 100 crystals, a hidden level will be unlocked as extra content.
The project took many years to develop
This fan project was first exposed as early as 2023, when the developer shared relevant test videos on YouTube to demonstrate the concept of converting “Tomb Raider II” to a 2.5D perspective.
Subsequent development continues and is gradually expanded into complete game content.
Positive response from the community
Before its official launch, “Tomb Raider: Side Scroller Edition” has received a lot of attention in the player community, with some players describing it as a fan work not to be missed.
Lucasfilm Games executive producer Craig Derrick has also publicly expressed his good impression of the project and affirmed its development direction.
TRCustoms platform offers free downloads
“Tomb Raider: Side Scroller Edition” is now available for download through the TRCustoms platform. The site features levels and fan content created using the Tomb Raider Level Editor, a tool originally used in Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation and whose functionality continues to be expanded by the community.
