ROG Xbox Ally X Update Adds Fast Display Controls and One-Tap Auto SR

A new Windows Xbox app update adds a Display widget and notification options, bringing resolution controls, projection mode, and Auto Super Resolution switches directly into the Xbox interface on ASUS ROG Xbox Ally X devices.

What does the Display widget do? It puts key visual settings within quick reach.

Based on current screenshots, the widget consolidates General, Projection, Resolution, and Refresh Rate options so players can make pre-game and mid-session adjustments without digging through multiple Windows menus.

What is Auto SR? It is system-level AI upscaling aimed at cleaner image quality and steadier frame pacing.

Auto SR works at the OS layer for supported DirectX titles, letting lower internal render resolution scale to a sharper output without requiring game-specific developer implementation. In practice, that can improve usability on handheld power budgets where every watt matters.

The feature rollout is currently Insider-first, not global release yet.

Microsoft has repeatedly used Xbox Insider waves for handheld features, including earlier preview drops like Highlight Reels support on ROG Xbox Ally X. That phased strategy helps test stability before broader deployment.

For handheld players, missing features are less frustrating than hidden features. Exposing these controls in the call-up interface is a meaningful UX correction, and for SEA users on mixed-power internet cafes and home setups, faster tuning can directly improve session quality without technical friction.
