“Isn’t this just the old version?” A new HORI steering wheel for Switch 2 is exposed, with two models, Mini or Deluxe, you can is gaining traction fast, and early community reaction suggests this one has real momentum.

As with major stories across retro and modern gaming, the key details are in how players are responding, how the platform owners move next, and whether this remains a short spike or a longer trend.

Do you still remember the “Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Edition” steering wheel launched by HORI for Nintendo Switch 1? That set is actually the first choice for many people to get started with “low-cost simulated driving”. Now, with the launch of Switch 2, HORI does not intend to let you make do with old accessories. Instead, it directly launches a new generation of “Mario Kart”-specific steering wheels, and this time it is divided into two versions: “Mini” and “Deluxe”.

According to current retailer information, the two steering wheels will be officially launched on March 23, 2026. The Deluxe is approximately USD $130 (approximately RM610/HKD $1,020/TWD $4,100), and the Mini is approximately USD $80 (approximately RM375/HKD $630/TWD $2,520).

It looks similar, but it’s actually a “functionally upgraded version”

If you think at first glance, “Isn’t this just the old version?”, you’re not wrong. The overall design almost continues the previous generation Switch version. The grip, pedals, and structure are all familiar, but the details have actually been adjusted for Switch 2.

The most critical change is the addition of the C button (dedicated to GameChat). This button was originally an assign button on the old model, but now it has become a chat shortcut key that supports the new features of Switch 2. This is actually paving the way for the new system ecosystem.

In addition, the “Mario Kart” theme logo is also added to the appearance, and the overall feeling is more of an official cooperation rather than a simple accessory.

Deluxe vs Mini: It’s not just about size

On the surface, the two versions only differ in size, but the Deluxe version takes the direction of “more serious play”. It has a larger steering wheel, supports 270°/180° steering switching, has 7-segment sensitivity adjustment and Dead Zone settings, and even provides programmable buttons. To put it bluntly, these things allow you to fine-tune the control feel.

The Mini is obviously geared towards light gamers or people with limited space. It is smaller in size, but the pedals, paddles and basic operations are still there. It also retains the programmable buttons and the central “M” prop button. It is mainly plug-and-play and does not require too many adjustments.

Can be used on Switch and Switch 2

These two steering wheels support Nintendo Switch, Switch OLED, and Switch 2, and can even be used in other racing games, not just “Mario Kart.”
