Player design competition for the new “Mega Man” game has entered the final stage, and the top six bosses will be announced

Player design competition for the new “Mega Man” game has entered the final stage, and the top six bosses will be announced is gaining traction fast, and early community reaction suggests this one has real momentum.

As with major stories across retro and modern gaming, the key details are in how players are responding, how the platform owners move next, and whether this remains a short spike or a longer trend.

Capcom officially announced “Mega Man: Dual Override” at the Spotlight conference in March 2026The final six entries of the boss design competition! This event is an official global player creation competition for new games. The final winning work will appear directly in the game and become a real boss character!

Six designs have been shortlisted, but the winner has yet to be announced. Capcom said that the development team will select a favorite work from these six designs and officially announce the winner at a later time.

Top six selected from global player designs

This competition was initially announced when “Mega Man: Dual Override” was released. Players need to design a boss with a “huge suction arm” based on the official template. This special condition also makes many of the submitted designs look quite creative. Some look like industrial vacuum cleaners, while others are closer to mechanical octopuses or magnetic devices.

The competition officially closed on January 1, 2026, and Capcom then selected 20 finalist designs from a large number of submissions. Players can then vote through the CAPCOM ID system to select the six most popular designs from these 20 works, ultimately forming the current “Top 6”.

Voting begins on January 30, 2026 and ends on February 5, 2026. Players who participate in voting will also receive official social media icons as a souvenir.

Champion designs will go directly into the game

The most attractive part of the game is actually not the fame, but actually getting into the game. Capcom has confirmed that the winning boss design will be made into an in-game boss and will officially appear in “Mega Man: Dual Override.”

In addition, the six shortlisted players will also receive an Excellence Award and their names will appear in the game’s credits. For fans who have supported the “Mega Man” series for many years, this is almost an official dream come true.

Speaking of which, the “Mega Man” series has always been very suitable for this type of competition. Robot Master already has a very distinct character design culture. Classic bosses such as Scissor Man, Metal Man, and Shadow Man all have strong theme concepts. Now allowing players to design it themselves can be regarded as returning the spirit of the series to its original creative core.

Mega Man: Dual Override is expected to launch in 2027

Mega Man: Dual Override is currently slated to launch in 2027 for Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, and other platforms. There are still not many details about the game, but judging from the official promotion, this will be a new attempt in the series.

Prior to this, Capcom is also preparing to launch “Mega Man Star Force: Legacy Collection” in March 2026 as another important work in the series.

As for what kind of boss the player designed this time will become, we can only wait for Capcom to announce the final champion! Which one do you like?
