Ubisoft confirms that a remake of the classic pirate masterpiece “Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag” is in development

Ubisoft confirms that a remake of the classic pirate masterpiece “Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag” is in development is gaining traction fast, and early community reaction suggests this one has real momentum.

As with major stories across retro and modern gaming, the key details are in how players are responding, how the platform owners move next, and whether this remains a short spike or a longer trend.

Rumors that have been circulating in gaming circles for three years have finally become official news. Ubisoft has officially confirmed that the remake of “Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag” is indeed in development, with the official title being “Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced”. This confirmation comes from Ubisoft’s latest series development report “Assassin’s Creed: Into 2026”, which means that the pirate legend that players have been waiting for for a long time finally has a real hammer!

The news was not announced in a long announcement, but officially revealed through a concept map. In the picture, the protagonist Edward Kenway stands on the top of the ship’s mast, with the familiar Caribbean scene in the background, and the new title “Black Flag Resynced” is written in the lower right corner. Ubisoft also hinted that what players have speculated for years was actually correct.

The rumor that lasted three years finally came true

News of the “Black Flag” remake can actually be traced back to June 2023. At the time, Kotaku reported that Ubisoft had given the go-ahead to make a completely remastered version of Black Flag. Later, Insider Gaming further broke the news in 2024, stating that the game would be officially developed starting in September 2023.

By the end of 2025, more clues began to emerge. The name “Black Flag Resynced” has appeared in the ESRB ratings database, and it is generally believed that this is the official title of the remake. There were even rumors at the time that the game might launch in March 2026.

However, Ubisoft’s recent large-scale restructuring has obviously affected plans, so the possibility of the game launching in the short term has been reduced. This official confirmation of development only means that the project does exist, but does not give any time for launch.

Ubisoft has not released any details yet.

Ubisoft has not yet revealed the specific content of the remake. The official did not explain whether the game will use a new engine, adjust the gameplay, or modify the plot. In other words, it is still unknown whether “Black Flag Resynced” is a complete remake or a high-standard remake.

However, considering that the earliest leaks mentioned that it was a complete remake, it is widely expected that this will not just be a graphics upgrade, but may be a comprehensive overhaul like the “Resident Evil” remake series.

Assassin’s Creed 2026 map

This time Ubisoft’s update is actually not just about “Black Flag”. The report also mentioned the future plans of the entire “Assassin’s Creed” series. “Assassin’s Creed Shadows” is currently in the final support stage.

“Assassin’s Creed: Codename Hexe” is described as a darker, story-oriented work, and will be produced by new series content leader Jean Guesdon. Another codename title, Assassin’s Creed: Codename Invictus, is also officially described for the first time as a PvP multiplayer Assassin’s Creed game, developed by Ubisoft Montreal’s For Honor team.

In addition, Ubisoft also confirmed that several long-term projects are still moving forward, including the mobile game “Assassin’s Creed Jade”, the returning Assassin’s Creed cooperative mode, and the Netflix live-action series.

At the same time, Ubisoft also announced that “Assassin’s Creed Unity” will receive a 60FPS update on March 5, 2026, which is a small surprise for old players.

Why Black Flag Is Still a Series Masterpiece

“Black Flag”, launched in 2013, is still considered by many players to be one of the most successful games in the series. The reason is actually very simple: it almost turns over the entire Assassin’s Creed formula.

No longer just an assassin on a city rooftop, players become pirate captain Edward Kenway, sailing the Caribbean on the Jackdaw.海战系统、探索岛屿、寻宝、登船战斗,这些元素让游戏更像一款海盗冒险 RPG,而不只是传统刺客教条。

Because of this, the influence of this work actually continues to this day. Ubisoft’s own later “Skull and Bones” was, to some extent, an extension of the naval combat gameplay of “Black Flag”.

The pirate legend may actually be coming back

What is certain is that Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced does exist, but Ubisoft is not ready to reveal more information yet. There is no release date and no live footage.

However, for many old players, as long as Edward Kenway stands on the mast of the ship again and the pirate flag is raised again, it is probably enough to look forward to. After all, in the entire Assassin’s Creed series, the one game that really makes players feel like they are on an adventure is probably “Black Flag.”
