Capcom may be remaking the original Resident Evil again is gaining traction fast, and early community reaction suggests this one has real momentum.
As with major stories across retro and modern gaming, the key details are in how players are responding, how the platform owners move next, and whether this remains a short spike or a longer trend.

One of the most important works in the history of horror games, “Resident Evil” may be getting another remake. Recent news circulating on the Internet indicates that Capcom may be developing a “second remake” of the original “Resident Evil”, which will mean that this classic work born in 1996 may usher in a third version of the reinterpretation.
This rumor comes from well-known Resident Evil leaker Dusk Golem. He said that Capcom is indeed currently planning a new “Resident Evil” remake project, but it is still in a very early stage and may be 4 to 7 years away from release. In other words, even if the plan does exist, players are unlikely to see actual results in the short term.
The original “Resident Evil” already had a classic remake

If it is indeed remade again, “Resident Evil” will actually become one of the few major game works to be remade twice. The original Resident Evil launched in 1996, not only coining the term “Survival Horror” but kickstarting the entire franchise.
Capcom released a complete remake in 2002, which first came to GameCube. This version is not only a screen upgrade, but also adds new plots, characters, scenes and a more terrifying atmosphere. It is still considered by many players to be one of the most successful game remakes in history.
Capcom then began remaking the series with modern engines, including Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 4. These works all use an over-the-shoulder third-person perspective, and the gameplay is closer to modern action horror games.
The new version may be changed to modern gameplay
If RE1 is remade again, it will most likely be in the same style as the recent series remakes. The original “Resident Evil” and the 2002 remake used a fixed camera perspective, but now players are more familiar with the third-person over-the-shoulder perspective.
Therefore, the most likely direction for the new version is to redesign the classic mansion into a gameplay consistent with the second and fourth generation remakes. Another possibility is a first-person version. Capcom has proven that first-person horror experiences are very successful with Resident Evil 7, Village, and Requiem. If the mansion could be re-explored in first person, the horror might be even stronger than before.
Some people even believe that the ideal design is to provide first-person and third-person switching at the same time, like “Requiem”, so that different types of players can accept it.
RE series plans for the next few years

According to the same source, Capcom actually has multiple Resident Evil projects lined up. The next remake is likely to be Resident Evil — Code: Veronica, which is expected to launch in 2027. Then there’s the Resident Evil Zero remake, which may debut in 2028. The official sequel to the series, “Resident Evil 10”, is reportedly planned to be released in 2029.

If this timeline holds true, then the new Resident Evil remake will likely land in 2030 or 2031. There is actually a very reasonable reason for the year 2031 – that year happens to be the 35th anniversary of the “Resident Evil” series.
For Capcom, celebrating the birth of the series with a remake of the original game is indeed a very reasonable choice.
