The next big Pokémon conversation starter has arrived.
Pokémon Winds & Waves is now on the board for Switch 2, currently aiming for a worldwide launch in 2027.
From first-look character chatter to region-design theories, the reveal has already kicked off the familiar cycle of hype, scrutiny, and high expectations.
The rumors and revelations are indeed true! At the finale of the latest “Pokémon Presents”, Pokémon officials finally dropped a bombshell – the new mainline work “Pokémon Winds & Waves” was officially released! This is not a spin-off, nor a remake, but a legitimate new generation. A specific release date has not yet been announced, but officials have confirmed that it will be “synchronized for global release” in 2027. This means that the new generation of Pokémon will be directly locked to Switch 2 and will be sold worldwide at the same time!
Yes, there is no partition this time.
Open world + Southeast Asian archipelago waters

Judging from the first trailer, the stage of this game is set in an archipelago area surrounded by the ocean, and the style clearly emphasizes “sea breeze”, “waves” and “water exploration”. The camera brings a lot of coastline and water scenes, and even clearly hints at an underwater exploration system. For third-generation players, this scene is almost emotional.
Officially described as an open world that can be freely explored, it contains a variety of ecological environments and a unique habitat system for Pokémon. Pokémon will form their own ecological circles in the natural environment, and players need to cooperate with them to overcome obstacles on the journey, including “natural forces”.
Sanji Gosanjia is officially released to the public

The trailer also revealed three initial partner Pokémon:
- Grass-type Browt – a lively but clumsy chick Pokémon
- Fire-type Pombon – an innocent and friendly puppy Pokémon
- Water-type Gecqua – a smart and calm water gecko Pokémon

The costumes of the protagonist will differ depending on the version, which continues the tradition of the series. As for the two Pikachu characters “Mr. Windychu” and “Ms. Wavychu” wearing summer looks, that’s the official name…don’t ask why!

Switch 2 exclusive? Currently only new hosts are mentioned

Officials clearly stated that this game was developed exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 by GAME FREAK. As of the deadline, there is no mention of the first-generation Switch version, which means that the main line of Pokémon has officially entered the next generation!

Judging from the smoothness of the screen, the current display version runs relatively stably. Although the scene is slightly empty, considering that there is still more than a year of development time before release, there is still room for optimization. Compared with the performance controversies of past generations, at least the first impression this time is not a disaster!

GAME FREAK still has a year to polish it
It will not be officially launched until 2027, which means GAME FREAK still has plenty of time to make adjustments. If this time it is really developed exclusively for Switch 2, in theory the hardware bottleneck should be reduced a lot, and the graphics shouldn’t be as watery as “Pokemon Legends Z-A”, right?
