Recently, many PC players have begun to complain that even though they have not changed the graphics card or upgraded the hardware, the game screen suddenly appears with weird broken graphics, black screen, and even the frame rate drops to an abnormal level. After the matter became more and more heated, NVIDIA officially responded and even recommended that some Windows 11 users remove specific system updates as a temporary solution!

The problem is suspected to be related to Windows 11 updates

What was named this time was Windows 11 update KB5074109. When NVIDIA responded to player questions on the official GeForce forum, employee Manuel Guzman mentioned that most of the abnormal game reports currently received occurred after installing the update.

The earliest discussion cases came from “Forza Horizon 5” players. They reported that various unstable situations began to occur after the update, including broken graphics, reduced performance, black screens, etc. Although the original player did not explicitly mention which update caused it, NVIDIA directly pointed out KB5074109, indicating that the correlation has been noticed internally.

Symptoms are inconsistent but cases are gradually increasing

Currently, there are quite a variety of problems reported by players. The most common ones are a sudden drop in frame rate, or strange noise and broken images on the screen. Some even black out the screen briefly. The more troublesome thing is that not everyone will encounter these situations. Some systems are completely normal, while others have obvious problems.

It is precisely because the number of cases is gradually increasing that NVIDIA has made a rare public announcement on the official forum to recommend that specific users first try to remove the update as the only known temporary solution at present.

It may also be related to the new graphics card driver

But things are not that simple. Although NVIDIA pointed out that the problem appeared after a Windows update, it is still not 100% sure that it is caused by KB5074109. Another possibility is that these situations occurred just after the new version of the GeForce driver was released, and a conflict occurred between the two.

This situation is actually not uncommon in the PC gaming industry. Sometimes Windows updates and graphics card drivers are out of sync, resulting in performance abnormalities or screen problems. Therefore, outsiders also speculate that this problem may be quietly fixed in a future GeForce driver update.

People who have not encountered problems are not recommended to remove updates randomly.

It’s worth noting that NVIDIA doesn’t recommend that all players remove Windows Updates. Only if you really encounter problems with broken images, performance crashes, or black screens, it is recommended to consider removing KB5074109 as a temporary measure.
