Psp can finally support the new wifi encryption wpa2 and netizens self made update: Do you still remember the pain of holding a PSP and trying to connect to the Internet

Do you still remember the pain of holding a PSP and trying to connect to the Internet, only to find that the WiFi base station at home did not recognize your antique handheld console? This is already a collective trauma among PSP players (it seems to be the same with NDS back then). After all, Sony did not allow PSP to support WPA2 encryption at all, resulting in almost all wireless networks being unusable. So what should we do?

But now! This all changes! The latest version of netizen’s homemade firmware ARK4 finally allows PSP to support WPA2! In other words, this handheld device from 20 years ago can finally reconnect with modern WiFi!

What? PSP can’t connect to WPA2?
Yes, PSP only supported old encryption methods such as WEP and WPA (TKIP), but the problem is that these standards have long been obsolete, and most modern routers will not provide you with these old modes at all. So for many years, players who wanted to connect their PSP to the Internet either had to open a HOTSPOT hotspot or dig out an old router from 10 years ago to manually downgrade the WiFi settings, which was very troublesome.

But now, thanks to Moment, the master of the PSP Homebrew Discord community, he has developed a new wpa2psp plug-in, which successfully enables the ARK4 self-made firmware to support WPA2 AES encrypted network! For PSP players, this is simply a historic completion!

Are there any restrictions?
Of course, after all, this is a “cracked and modified” function, not an official fix by Sony, so there are still some minor shortcomings:

  • Only supports the 2.4GHz band – if your router bundles 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi together, you may have connection issues.
  • Only WPA2 AES encryption can be used – WEP and WPA are disabled when using this plugin, and if you want to switch back, you have to manually turn off WPA2.
  • Mixed mode (WPA2/WPA3) may have IP acquisition problems – if your router is set to use a mix of WPA2 and WPA3, you may need to adjust the settings to allow the PSP to connect to the Internet normally.

But seriously, these restrictions are nothing compared to “finally allowing PSP to connect to WiFi”!

Want to give it a try? Come install it now!
If you are a PSP self-made firmware player, you can download the latest ARK4 now, which has this awesome WPA2 function built-in! If you don’t want to update the entire ARK4, there are alsoA separate wpa2psp plugin can be installed, no matter what CFW is used, the PSP can have modern WiFi connection capabilities!

PSP is like an electronic phoenix, it can’t be burned to death and can be resurrected by WiFi!
This WPA2 support proves that although the PSP is already an “old handheld machine”, its player and developer communities are still enthusiastic! From the earliest Homebrew games and emulators to the current major wireless network update, the PSP has been protected by veteran players and has continued to survive against the odds. It is even more diligent than Sony officials in repairing the regrets of this handheld console.

So, friends who still have PSP, go and give it a try! Connect to WiFi and make your PSP rejuvenate!
