Dino crisis 12 is officially launched on PC in 4k quality steam deck is playable: Capcom’s classic dinosaur survival horror game “Dino Crisis 1 & 2” is officially ported to PC!

Capcom’s classic dinosaur survival horror game “Dino Crisis 1 & 2” is officially ported to PC! This time, GOG is responsible for the digital distribution (that is, the traditional way of buying the game, downloading it and then installing it), bringing a series of modern enhancements so that you can smoothly relive this PS1 masterpiece on Windows 10/11!

Dinosaurs vs. Survival Horror, the return of classics
The transplanted “Dino Crisis 1” and “Dino Crisis 2” are both dinosaur horror survival games of the PS1 era, launched by Capcom in 1999 and 2000. Players will play the role of special agent Regina, investigating a scientific research institution, only to discover that a time distortion phenomenon caused a prehistoric dinosaur explosion, turning it into an existential nightmare!

STEAM DECK takes some effort
If Steam Deck players want to relive this survival horror masterpiece on their handheld console, they still have to work hard.

Heroic can’t run, Lutris takes care of it!
If you try to use the Heroic Games Launcher to run the GOG version of “Dino Crisis”, the first generation will pop up a DirectDraw error, and the second generation will not start directly. After some testing, the problem can be solved with Lutris, an open source game launcher.

  • Dino Crisis 2: Execute it intact through Lutris, and the game will start normally!
  • Dino Crisis 1: You need to enable the game properties in Lutris and enable vgVoodoo 2. This is a tool that converts old graphics APIs into modern formats and can solve game compatibility issues.

Although the game is basically playable, there are two more obvious problems:

  • CG cutscenes sometimes turn into rainbow images. There is no perfect solution for this yet, but someone reported that using Proton GE 8-30 to run Desktop mode can solve some of the cutscene problems.
  • Abnormal power consumption – This game was obviously produced in 1999, but it actually caused the Steam Deck to reach 14W? It is recommended to manually limit TDP to 4W or 5W to avoid excessive power consumption.

Can be played, but needs to be adjusted manually
If you’re looking forward to being able to play the GOG version of “Dino Crisis” painlessly directly using the Steam Deck, you may be a little disappointed. But if you’re willing to tweak the settings a little, both old games can still run smoothly. I hope that Heroic Games Launcher can support vgVoodoo in the future, so that there is no need to install Lutris specially.

There’s also the sadly forgotten Dino Crisis 3, but… let’s not mention it.
In terms of price, you can buy them individually for RM47 ($10 USD), or you can buy two of them in a package at a discount of RM80 ($17 USD).

Should you buy it or not? Dinosaur fans decide for themselves!
If you are an old PS1 player or want to try this “Dinosaur Version of Castle Evil”, now is your chance! Although this is not the remake that fans have been waiting for, at least… I finally don’t have to play with an emulator!
